The aim of this package is to provide you with sufficient information to facilitate your arrival at the Nottingham Children's Hospital at Queen's Medical Centre. It is important that you attend any induction meetings that are arranged for you. We hope you enjoy working with us.
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust is one of the largest in the UK with an annual budget of more than £500 million. It was formed on 1 April 2006, with the merger of Queen's Medical Centre and Nottingham City Hospital Trusts. Nottingham Children's Hospital is situated at the Queen's Medical Centre Campus. There are some childrens services based at the City Hospital Campus including Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, Burns Unit and the Children's Development Centre.
Queen's Medical Centre has a total of 2,200 hospital beds across both campuses, of which over 100 are within the Paediatric Department. The Children's Hospital is situated primarily within the East Block. Queen's has one of the busiest emergency departments in the UK it incorporates a separate Paediatric Emergency Department.

Essentials
1. Obtain an ID badge You require an application form signed by a manager in your department which you should have received before your first day. If not contact Human Resources. 2. Apply for a car park pass. You need an application form, from Human Resources, which should be returned to the car parking office. 3. Ensure Human Resources have your bank account details and your P45 from your previous employer. If you do not have a P45 then you should complete a P46 form (available from HR) as soon as possible. Failure to do so will mean that income tax will be deducted at the basic rate until you are obtain a tax code. 4. Ensure your CRB status, GMC certification, work permits and visas, Occupational Health assessment and Transmissible infections status have been returned prior to your start date. If you are aware that any of the issues remain unresolved it is your duty to inform medical personnel and either Dr Carol Bertenshaw (Foundation Doctors, VTS and ST1-3) or Dr Louise Denvir (SpRs and ST4-8). 5. Induction Package
There is an induction meeting on your first day with Dr Bertenshaw and Nicola Bors, the junior doctors coordinator. We will discuss the rota, roles and responsibilities, handover, educational supervision and teaching programme.
There will also be ICT training on your first day when you will be given your NOTIS and PACS computer password and shown how to do edischarge summaries. You also need access to the Paediatric Shared Area in order to update the handover sheets.
You will be contacted by Aileen Irvine (resuscitation officer) before starting with a date for Paediatric Intermediate Life Support (PILS) Training, unless you have already completed a course.
